1. Tremec Transmission Identification Tag Finder
This tutorial will assist you in finding your Tremec Transmisssion Identification Tag

|
|
|
Identify your transmission by the tag attached to one the bolts that attach the tail housing to the main case. Raise your car in a secure manner and note what is on the ID tag. This tag will be found attached to a bols securing the tail shaft housing to the main case, this is Tremec's location as an example below.

NOTE: The bottom-left (circled) model number matches the model numbers on the chart page that lists all the transmission variations. Ignore the "TR3550" designation as that can appear on any transmission, including the 500TKO and 600TKO models which are not "3550" models, yet the stamping can still be present.
EXAMPLE: The above tag is for a 600TKO transmission, yet it still shows the "TR3550" stamping above the circled model number, even though it is not a 3550 transmission. Only rely on the model number stamping and compare that to the chart.

2. Tremec 3550/TKO and TKO-500/600 Transmission Identification
This tutorial will assist you in visually identifing the difference between these two versions of Tremec Transmissions if the ID tag is not present
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The outer cases are very similar between these two versions, but there are several external indicators on the case to define the difference between the two versions. After that, to determine if it's a 3550 vs 3550-TKO, the spline count on the tail shaft yoke will ID that. Same thing to ID the TKO-500 vs TKO-600.
